Semlor buns
My first thought on tasting one of these buns was 'why haven't I discovered this sooner?!'. I am a marzipan fiend; once a packet is opened I cannot get enough of the stuff. These are a dream for a marzipan lover - soft cardamom spiced buns with a sticky almond filling, topped with a mound of whipped cream. No wonder the Swedish are so highly ranked in their quality of life growing up eating these!
Known as Semlor (or Semla) buns, these little morsels are traditionally eaten on Shrove Tuesday (known as Fettisdagen or 'fat Tuesday' by the Swedes - a term I can't help but love!) or during Lent. I don't believe they should be restricted to just this period as they are too delicious, but why not try them out whilst it is traditional to do so? Send me your photos if you decide to give them a go!
